God chose before the creation to save man in a certain way…through Christ - Ephesians 1:3-5 - "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places IN CHRIST: According as he hath chosen us IN HIM before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children BY JESUS CHRIST to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will..."
Those saved are called “the elect” in 1 Peter 1:2. The term ‘elect’ has reference to being ‘chosen beforehand’.
Remember that in Ephesians 1:4 that salvation was to be in Christ – “…he chose us IN HIM before the foundation of the world.”
Accordingly, we are told in 1 Peter 1:18-20 that Christ was foreordained; foreordained to redeem man.
Peter reminded the “elect” of this as follows: "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world…"
These prophets in the O. T. foretold of a day and time of when this great feat would be accomplished and the glories associated with being redeemed by the One whom God had foreordained to suffer and die--Christ. They were not serving themselves, but were servants of God to prophesy or ‘forth-tell’ this eternal purpose of God to provide salvation through His Son. God used prophets to make known to others this eternal purpose.
Accordingly, Amos wrote in Amos 3:7 - “…the Lord GOD… revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets."
