"Wrongful" Enemies

"Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; those who would destroy me are powerful, being wrongfully my enemies." ~ Psalm 69:4
A 'wrongful' enemy is one who hates "without cause". Sad, but true, that there are those who, for whatever reason, are so driven by wrongful motives that all sense of reason is lost with them. As David said here in this psalm, "I looked for sympathy, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none." (v. 20)
David was innocent, and so today, many are innocent of any wrong, yet suffer because of a 'wrongful' enemy. God knows who is truthfully innocent and who is guilty. Therein is the consolation: "You know my reproach and my shame and my dishonor; all my adversaries are before You., comfort did exist with God!" (v. 19).
God tries the heart of His child, to purify, and strengthen the faith of that child. Therein is the benefit for that particular child. However, this "trial" period serves not only a benefit for the one under trial by God, it will also 'prove' in the sense of 'exposing' the love of other children. If their love is genuine, they will "weep with them that weep". If their love is "lip service" they will be exposed as a 'WRONGFUL' enemy, in their treatment of the brother under trial. Thus, there will be a separation and exposure of the genuine from the fake.
Many times, during God's trial in our lives, others, (even brethren) will look at the situation and, as Job's three friends, "rub salt into the wound". They declare the truth of themselves during such times. David described it in Psalm 69:26 as follows: "For they have persecuted him whom You Yourself have smitten, and they tell of the pain of those whom You have wounded."

They may revel when others suffer, yet God knows, and will, in His time, recompense the wicked and reward the innocent.
May those whom "the Lord chastens" remember, during their trial, the words of David here in v. 13, "...my prayer is to You, O Lord, at an acceptable time; O God, in the greatness of Your loving-kindness, answer me with Your saving truth." It will enable them to emerge from the trial, stronger.
For those who are 'wrongful' enemies, remember the words of David in vss. 27-28: "Add iniquity to their iniquity, and may they not come into Your righteousness. May they be blotted out of the book of life and may they not be recorded with the righteous."
